Sculpting Awesome Abs in Western New England:

Joan Griswold, local workplace health & wellness director, announces the DVD release of her popular abdominal workout

It seems as though everyone wants a flat belly and washboard abs. But according to local workplace health and wellness director Joan Kosa Griswold, the aesthetic benefits of abdominal strength are just the icing on the cake. With the recent release of her workout DVD, Awesome Abs, Joan hopes to increase awareness about the importance of abdominal strength that goes beyond the bikini body and helps participants manage chronic pain, maintain mobility and improve overall strength, health and fitness.

Joan Griswold has served Western New England for over 20 years by providing workplace wellness and occupational safety coaching, personal fitness and nutritional training, and proactive health training for clients of a variety of industries in the Pioneer Valley and beyond. Among other venues, Joan’s business, Be Your Best Health Promotion Services, provides fitness classes and health coaching to Smith College employees. After receiving requests for an at-home version of her popular Smith workout, she decided to create a DVD.

“Abdominal strength is particularly important – and too often overlooked – in the workplace. An engaged, strengthened core can help prevent injuries and discomfort on the job,” said Joan. “I am pleased to offer this DVD to help anyone improve their abdominal strength, whether or not they have the opportunity to receive on-the-job wellness training.”

Joan says that abdominal strength has made a big difference to her clients, as well as for her own continued recovery from an unfortunate car accident in 2004. “As someone trying to overcome a spinal injury, I cannot overemphasize the importance of maintaining a strong core. The exercises on the DVD are the same ones I use to maintain my strength and function. This workout helped get me back on my feet!”

Throughout the workout, Joan and her two assistants demonstrate exercise variations that will accommodate different fitness levels and goals. The DVD includes:

· Comprehensive tips for proper technique

· Warm-up exercises

· Core stabilization exercises with a fitness ball

· Exercises that focus on the entire abdominal wall

· Exercises that focus on the glutes and lower back

· A cool down and series of stretches

Total DVD time is approximately 60 minutes. The workout can also be done in smaller segments.

Joan Kosa Griswold, a leader in the health and wellness industry for over 20 years, is the owner and principal coach of Be Your Best Health Promotion Services and focuses on wellness programming in the workplace. Joan’s clients include regional employers and colleges in Western New England.

Joan has a bachelor’s degree in Human Performance & Wellness from the University Without Walls, University of Massachusetts, and a Health Promotion Director certification from the Cooper Institute of Aerobic Research Center. She maintains current certifications as Group Exercise Instructor & Personal Trainer with the American Council On Exercise and as a Nutrition Specialist from Lifestyle Management Associates.
